Youth and family ministry is important at St. Mark. We focus on nurturing Christian relationships through fun, service and learning. Thanks to the many dedicated youth workers within our congregation we are able to root these programs in caring Christian relationships between youth and adult members.
Children (and all their noises, shouts, smiles, cries, and coos) are a cherished part of our congregation and are always welcome in worship. Activity bags, colors, coloring pages and word puzzles are located at the back of the worship space for kids to take to their seat. For younger children, if you desire, you’re welcome to use our Prayground which is located in the left entryway (Narthex) of the church. We have a rocker, changing area, and play area designed for younger children.
Elementary school aged children may take Communion if their parents approve and after instruction from Pastor Katy. There is a place for anyone who wants to participate.
Programs are offered throughout the year for high school youth and middle school youth. The pastor holds confirmation classes as our youth reach the appropriate ages. Pastor Katy is in the process of creating a new program for pre-school and elementary youth (during worship on Sunday mornings).
Children from pre-teen to high school age also take roles as offering bearers, acolytes and assisting minister, if they wish.
Fellowship activities are offered for various ages throughout the year, including rock climbing, bowling, horseback riding, picnics, water parks, beach trips, and ice skating.
Service projects include the CASA Christmas party, Warm Hearts/Warm Scarves for the homeless, cards for homebound members, the Little Miracles, Underwear Drive and serving church breakfasts. Youth also participate in a wide variety of worship roles.
ELCA National Youth Gathering (See the Youth Gathering: A Retrospective in Pictures in the Photo Gallery Section.)
Houston, Texas June 27 – July 1, 2018
Every three years, 30,000 high school youth and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation known as the ELCA Youth Gathering. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live out their Christian faith in their daily lives.
St. Mark Lutheran has three youth and one adult sponsor signed up and excited to attend! They are partnering with Grace Lutheran (Clearwater) and St. Timothy’s Lutheran (Tarpon Springs) to prepare and travel to Houston for this faith-forming event.
